Te Pōti - The Vote is a Parliament-themed story for 9-12 year olds. You can download Te Pōti - The Vote, which is available in both English and Te Reo Māori, as a digital book or as an audio book.

This story follows Hinekura during her first day at a new school where she argues with a bully who makes up his own rules during a lunchtime football match. Upset by this, when she gets home Hinekura confides in her father where they discuss the importance of rules and the law. To fulfil Hinekura’s curiosity about what laws are and who makes them, her father takes her on a trip to Parliament where she sees law-making in action.

A teacher's support material has been designed to accompany the story to help teachers and adults teach the concepts found in the story to their young learners. This support material includes links to achievement objectives in the New Zealand Curriculum and the Year 6 reading and writing standards.
